About Mr. Hardenburg
My name is Alan Hardenburg, and this is my fifth year teaching at Sacred Heart Elementary. My family moved into West Lafayette about 7½ years ago, and it was at that time that I made a decision to make a change in career and pursue a teaching certificate. Right after our move, I spent about 3 years at St. Lawrence Elementary in Lafayette, in roles such as interventionist, Title 3 tutor, student-teacher, and my first job as a licensed teacher, substituting for a kindergarten teacher’s maternity leave. For the last 10 years, I have also assisted with various sports teams, but primarily I have been an assistant coach for my son’s favorite sport, baseball.
I was welcomed into the Catholic Church at the 2009 Easter Vigil. Since then, I have been involved in a number of ministries, including Reader, Extra-Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and choir member. I have been a Catechist since joining the church in 2009, teaching at VBS, CIC (RCIA for children), and in the 4th grade classroom.
My wife, Christine, is my college sweetheart. We met during freshman year, got engaged as sophomores, and married after our senior year. She grew up in Rensselaer, Indiana, and received her bachelor’s of science in accounting at Saint Mary of the Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana. She has a Master’s degree from Cardinal Stritch University, as well as a 2 year certificate from the Archdiocese of Chicago Scripture School. She too has served many years as a reader and Extra-Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist, as well as various leadership roles in a number of women’s ministries.
Our son, Nathan, graduated from Central Catholic High School in May of 2022. He participated in a number of sports, including the baseball, football, wrestling and bowling teams, as well as various activities, including choir, champions together, and the spring musical. He has chosen to discern a vocation to the priesthood at Saint John Vianney Seminary at Saint Thomas University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Please keep him in your prayers as he continues his journey to “Know, love and serve God in this world so that he can be with Him in the next.”
I am humbled by the loving way that this community has welcomed me and I look forward to another year serving you and your children.
Blessings!
